Legislation in Alberta allows a person to apply to the Court to be granted legal authority to make decisions on behalf of an elderly or disabled parent, partner or friend, when they are no longer capable of making financial and/or personal and health care decisions for themselves. The person who is the subject of this type of special type of Court application is referred to as a dependent adult.
